When I was on assignment taking photos in Afghanistan, my boyfriend Brian was on vacation in the Grand Canyon for a week so was unable to call me for part of the time. He took his guitar to the beach, and other beautiful places near to where we live and recorded me a series of songs. He put them on YouTube and set his email to automatically send me one for every day he was away. I sat in the Reuters office in Kabul, with a massive satellite dish in the garden. Through music, video, and technology, I felt very connected to home.

Photos and magnets on our refrigerator. I am reminded of family, friends and holidays when I open the door.
A mourning dove gave birth to two chicks in the hanging geranium pot on our balcony. We watched them learn to fly, and now they come back to visit her as she sits on two more eggs. The father sits on the eggs from morning to afternoon, and the mother the rest of the day and at night.
This is our bookshelf. I've lived in a lot of places, and haven't kept many possessions, but have always found it hard to let go of books.
